   Discussion

   Open questions about what truly happens, chapter by chapter. Students retell, reflect, and reason, never multiple choice.

3. III

   Vocabulary

   Key words drawn from the text and defined in the context of the story. For younger grades, delivered as crossword puzzles.

4. IV

   Critical thinking

   Questions that ask students to analyze, connect, and form a considered judgment, to reason about the book, not merely recall it.
